Greeting Card Holder

Greeting Card Holder

I saw this great idea posted at Stamper’s Quest and just had to try it. The hardest part of all was choosing the hard-backed book to desecrate :).

If you know me well, you’ll know that I have a library in my house and it’s full of books – obviously – but I kept picking one out and then deciding I might want to read that one again etc….. So, Modern Basic Mathematics seemed like a good choice after a lot of dithering, I’m pretty sure I’ll not want to read it. 🙄

The instructions for this project are at the site linked above so I’ll not go into too much detail. It didn’t take long at all to fold the pages and – once I’d got past my squeamishness at destroying a book – I really enjoyed making it.

Mathematics book, probably wont want to read it

The book

I chose to fold 2 pages at a time as there were over 400 in the book

Handmade papers, should it be black or white?

OK, I choose white, now should it be dots or flowers?

White or white

I used double-sided tape to hold this paper in place

A scrap of a different paper used to tidy the underneath of the book - this is one I don't particularly like from the set of papers and it *will* be hidden

Filling the gap

Lovely wired ribbon (CostCo again) is threaded through the spine and tied in a bow

Lots of die-cuts ready to decorate the holder

Die Cuts

The snowflakes are doubled up die-cuts glued together and dotted with stickles; the deer are by Tim Holtz for Sizzix and, after cutting out of plain card, I ran them through a Texture Fade which I’d inked on both sides with a Brilliance Ink Pad in Galaxy Gold.

Details for these are above

Deer and Snowflakes

Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia cut out of card and then run through an embossing folder and embossed with silver powder; others cut out of soda cans - all coloured with alcohol inks

Sizzix Fancy Flourish and several leaves, over-stamped in silver with tiny snowflakes

Hot glue was used to stick the flower layers together and to add all the other 'bits'

The deer were also hot glued - to the gold snowflakes

One end

Two opened paper clips glued to the back hold these end decorations in place - the 'spikes' go through some of the folded pages yet don't stop the functioning of the card holder

Other end

The photos below show different views of the finished item – the last few with some cards in to show how it works. I think it looks pretty without the cards just as a centrepiece.
