I made this card especially for my son – it started with an 8×8 card base and the first layer is some black hand-made paper with raised silver dots in a swirly pattern. On top of this is a panel of white shimmer card from which I cut the Spellbinders™ Expandable Botanical Swirls. I embossed it with the tan mat and then removed some of the small pieces. It’s a fiddly die to work with but I think quite effective.
I cut a couple of ornaments from the same black paper as the first layer and the filigree inside the upper one is a failed Christmas Tree which I didn’t want to waste (failed in that I die-cut it and then didn’t like it on the card!). I adhered the ornament frame on top of the tree and trimmed away the sticky-out bits. I then cut faux-nesties from the shimmer card by drawing around the shapes and cutting out by hand.
I used every scrap of these two papers by cutting out as many ornament shapes and snowflakes as possible :).
The fancy ribbon on the side is from a reel which jumped into my shopping cart while I was in CostCo – I told it I was not buying any more ribbon but it just wouldn’t listen!
Inside I used some Christmassy paper and stamped the Steampunk NOEL onto white card before die-cutting it with an oval nestie. It’s kinda grungy looking but that was intentional – my son is not really ‘into’ cards at all so I had to make it a little less ‘soppy’ than normal Christmas cards :).
I put the side-view photo in just to show how I’d used 3D pads to raise the elements a bit. Personally, I love it……. and he does too!
