****News Flash**** I’ve just found out this card was voted the winner for the Sketch Challenge – it has pride of place on the home page of the group :).
Another month, another Saturday Sketch over on the Michael Strong Yahoo Group – this card I made for my good friend Janet.
The main body of the card uses the Spellbinders Expandable die which I left in a frame but cut away lots of the small pieces. I used a creamy coloured pearlescent card for that layer and put some brown sparkle paper behind it for one layer. I thought it was looking a little dull so I added a splash of colour with the bright blue card layer which I also used behind the Cloisonné circle and for one set of ‘wings’. The other wings were cut in more of the cream card and the brown paper (as were the decorative circles).
The zig-zag panel was cut with a Spellbinder Edgeabilities die and layered onto more cream card – the ‘Special Friend’ stamping actually looks a lot better in real life than on the photos and the dots are done with a Sakura sparkle pen.
I ran some small pieces of cream and brown media through the Grand Calibur with the large extendible die and trimmed away to get the leafy flourishes, offset slightly to give a ‘shadow’. Once I tried the whole lot on top of the card base I wasn’t quite happy with the sizing so, instead of cutting the card down, I added the two rectangles of brown paper as partial layers and attached the whole lot with tape and a couple of snaps in opposing corners (belt ‘n braces :)). Gold PVA glue dots finished it off around the edges.
