Quietfire Creations are holding their 4th Annual Queen of Hearts Challenge and this is my entry.
The card base is a deep red with a subtle gold pattern all over and some gold foliage and butterflies near the bottom – which I seem to have covered almost completely!
I stamped the ‘queen’ on to some watercolour paper and die cut it with S4-296 Nested Hearts (which appear to be discontinued now, I think). I traced around the die on the back of some gold paper and cut it out to give a ‘faux-nestie‘ and raised it on 3D foam dots. The wording was written (very badly, I’m afraid) with my dip pen and red ink on the same watercolour paper – not an ideal medium for this and I was hurrying to get this done in time for the competition so I apologise for the state of it!
I cut the wording out with a plain heart and, while it was still in the die, I lightly coloured with Fired Brick Distress Ink and embossed the hearts with a texture plate and embossing tool. I hit these with a bit more ink to make them stand out and backed the whole with a scalloped heart cut from the gold paper.
The cluster of hearts at the top are crowned with a shrink plastic (shrunk plastic?) one and the fabric ones down the edges were a single length of white trim which I also coloured faintly with Fired Brick.
