At our Stamping Club we have the option to do some ‘homework’ – we’re given a challenge and then we describe how we made the cards at the next meeting. Some of them are really tricky, you don’t always feel inspired, but this theme – make a card using only red, black and gold – really appealed to me so I made six! Sometimes I don’t even do one but I got a little carried away!

Oriental

This is the first one I did – those colours really shout oriental to me. I used matt gold card stock and stamped a maple leaf randomly all over it in black. I then layered some patterned paper onto red card through which I’d cut a ‘window’ and held the corners back with gold brads. There’s a small black dragonfly on there also but it’s a little hard to see. A circle was punched in the same red card and the gold embellishment came from an old decorative plaque. The japanese lady by Non Sequitur was stamped on black card and embossed with gold powder and I tied a knot in some mizuhiki cord.

There’s a lot of gold embossing on black card here, the stamps are all by Elusive Images and I stamped the block six times and layered them onto red card, the verse was treated the same. The central flower was mounted again on red and I rounded the corners just to add a little contour. To the left are some pieces I made with my melt-pot poured into moulds made from a button and these are glued onto a little gold mirri card and again layered on red. Red square brads hold the large panel in place.

Hearts

Hearts

Prickley Pear hearts were stamped and embossed with gold and then cut out and mounted onto a black panel and then a red one. This is attached to the left side of a gate-fold card and a pattern of small swirls is stamped and embossed with red to give a subtle look to the right-hand side. A simple sentiment, Love and Kisses, was stamped in black and layered onto red and then a piece of mirri card.

Funky-Doodles

I tried to do something a little different for me here, there’s a black cardstock base card with a panel of matt gold to one side. On top of that there’s a deep red, almost burgundy, panel with a topper of white glossy card sponged with red, stamped with Elusive Images Funky Doodle stamp and then small clusters of flowers and a little leaf stamped in gold ink here and there. The flower is attached with a gold brad and the doodles outlined in gold pen. All held in place with deep red eyelets.

Friendly Plastic

Friendly Plastic

The gold mirri card reflects the flash a bit on this but I think you still see the general idea. A zig-zag folded black card had a couple of pieces of mirri mounted on it, the back one stamped with red Staz-on using an oriental flourish. A small piece of ‘caught in crystal’ was mounted on the front piece and then some friendly plastic in red, black and gold, melted and mixed and some curly red wire with deep red beads was threaded around and through it and held in place (through a couple of holes that appeared while I was melting it) with some red brads. I punched out three small squares and added them to the front…….just because!

Caught in Crystal

I think this is my favourite, or it could be flowers, or possibly friendly plastic…. anyway, the base card is red this time and overstamped with black. Layers of gold, black and gold again, and a topper of caught-in-crystal with another Elusive Images flower stamped on the acetate with black Staz-on was all mounted using small square brads so as not to need any glue on the acetate.
Another little piece of this c-i-c (almost used the whole A5 piece now!) was mounted on gold card and then onto a black tag and another gold tag placed behind it and held with a gold star-shaped brad.

Have you got a favourite? Do tell.
