Caroline, Jo, Janet

What a great evening we’ve just had! I invited a good friend of mine, Janet, to come play in my craftroom and also asked CarolineB (from the DoCraft Forum) to join us. We’ve never met Caroline before but have ‘spoken’ via email – she lives about 1/2 mile up the road from me! They arrived around 7pm and left at 11:30 – way past Caroline’s bedtime – but what a laugh we had! I guess crafters have always got something in common – a basic love of this hobby.Caroline brought her wedding scrapbook for us to pore over plus all sorts of other goodies. Remember that bag that Mary Poppins carried? The one with a hatstand etc. in? Well, her bag was like that, she’d mention something and then say “oh, I’ll show you” and out of the bag it came!

Hard at work!

Hard at work!

We started off by playing with the brayer – none of us are very good with that tool I’m afraid. A lot of card went into the bin but Janet did manage to finish one beautiful piece which she is, quite rightly, very proud of. Caroline then showed a card technique which displayed Janet’s piece to great advantage.

We tried, and failed, to assemble a card idea I’d seen on the Internet – not too impressed with our efforts. Then we did a bit of  ‘Caught in Crystal’ on acetate and they were both really naughty peeking underneath to see what they looked like before they were dry!

Next, out came Dreamweaver paste and a glorious selection of brass stencils to choose from – I’ve had the stuff for ages and never used it but I will do so now – what a great textured effect you get with that. Glitter everywhere too!

I then showed them how to stamp with rubber bands around an acrylic block. Janet loved this so much she made several different backgrounds. You just wrap the bands around a block, ink it up with embossing ink, sprinkle the embossing powder of choice over and heat to set it. Then add colour – either with a sponge or with a brayer – we tried both.

My butler, Nigel (aka DH), brought us tea and cake to keep us fuelled and took the photos of us at play work! Caroline kept saying that “next time I’ll bring xxxxx” so we didn’t frighten her off completely. We’re looking forward to going to her house in the summer so we can play in her crafty shed with its verandah and with all her lovely toys!
